Making a Gift

Types of Gifts

General Support

Fulfilling our mission – to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation – requires our Cancer Center researchers to continually generate new ideas and novel approaches to cancer treatment, prevention and control. Your unrestricted gift goes to areas of greatest promise in the fight against cancer.

Gifts for Specific Programs

UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center provides “multidisciplinary” programs for most cancers, offering unique treatment innovations for the toughest cases through clinical trials – from novel cancer vaccines and drugs to new ways of enhancing current chemotherapy. Faculty in each program area are conducting cutting-edge cancer research. They are committed to translate discovery into action, moving knowledge from the laboratory bench to the patient bedside and to communities throughout our state.

You may direct your support to any one of our major program areas:

Remembrance Gifts

Remembrance gifts provide valuable support to UNC Lineberger and its faculty so that their research, treatment, and patient support can help win the fight against cancer.

When you want to offer condolences to friends or family members, you can establish a living memorial in the name of the deceased. We’ll send an acknowledgement of your thoughtfulness and sympathy to whomever you designate.

Celebrate joyful occasions – recovery from an illness, a holiday, a birthday, anniversary, graduation, the recognition of an outstanding achievement, or any other occasion – with a gift honoring someone special. We’ll send a personalized acknowledgment to your honoree. Meet all of your gift giving needs, honor someone, and help find a cure for cancer all at once with a living memorial.

To make a gift in memory or in honor of someone special, please complete the gift form and mail it with your check. You can also call the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Office of External Affairs at (919) 966-5905.

If you want to inform others of your desire to establish a memorial for a member of your family, you can instruct the funeral director to include in the obituary notice the phrase: “the family suggests memorial contributions to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, CB #7295, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7295.”

Planned Gifts

There are many ways to make a gift to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. A cash contribution may seem the easiest and is usually the first that comes to mind, but it is not always the most advantageous method. Many planned giving alternatives including bequests, charitable remainder trusts, and gifts of life insurance and retirement plans, may provide increased tax benefits.

Individuals who document their planned gift to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center are welcomed as members of both The W. Reece Berryhill Society of The Medical Foundation and The Gerrard Society of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. These two Societies recognize the hundreds of alumni and friends who have remembered Carolina through planned gifts and members are recognized in University publications and occasional special events.
